New postdoc position opened!

New postdoc position opened!

We are pleased to announce the opening of a new postdoc position in the area of quantum material discovery, synthesis and characterization! We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoc who will strengthen our team with research in the field of new quantum materials and our ERC StG “distort-to-grasp”. The postdoc will perform experimental research in the field of new materials discovery, in particular quantum materials with magnetic, superconducting or charge-density-wave characteristics. This...

Haneen Abushammala wins presentation prize of the DGKK

Dr. Haneen Abushammala has been awarded with the DGKK Award for the best presentation at the German Conference on Crystal Growth (DKT 2024) that was held on Erlangen on March 5-8, 2024. Her presentation on "Single-crystal growth of the hole-doped Mott insulator BaCoS2 from high-temperature solutions" has captivated the diverse audience of the German Society for Crystal Growth (DGKK) with a striking example of the development of a self-flux growth. Haneen has been working on this challenging...

Registration for Blockpraktikum 513 open

Our compact lab course (Blockpraktikum) on experimental solid state physics will take place also this year in March, 23.2.2024-7.3.2023, with four appointments during this time. There has been in date change, in order to avoid collision with the module "Einführung in das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten" in the last three weeks of March. The participants will grow their own single crystals from a high-temperature metallic flux and characterize their obtained single crystals using x-ray diffraction...

Crystal growth paper published!

Crystal growth paper published!

Our work on the development of a new container for high-temperature solution growth of alkali-containing compounds has been published in Crystals! Growing single crystals rich in alkali-metals is a challenge that was successfully tackled by Jutta Püttmann in her master's thesis. The manuscript is open access and can be found here: https://www.mdpi.com/2073-4352/13/9/1332. Congratulations, Jutta, on your first publication and thanks to everyone for their great work!

ERC Starting Grant

ERC Starting Grant

We were awarded an ERC Starting grant for our research of subtle phase transitions! With the ERC grant, we will newly establish a novel “distortiometry” approach that will be at the center of a specialized programme based on distortions to get a grasp of nematic superconductivity. More information can be found here: EP4/research or RUB news.
