Our work on the development of a new container for high-temperature solution growth of alkali-containing compounds has been published in Crystals! Growing single crystals rich in alkali-metals is a challenge that was successfully tackled by Jutta Püttmann in her master's thesis. Our compact lab course (Blockpraktikum) on experimental solid state physics will take place also this year in September, 18.9.2023-29.9.2023. The participants will grow their own single crystals from a high-temperature metallic flux and characterize their obtained single crystals using x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. On May 11, our new Coxem scanning electron microscope finally started operation. We are looking forward to many exciting results.

We were awarded an ERC Starting grant for our research of subtle phase transitions! With the ERC grant, we will newly establish a novel “distortiometry” approach that will be at the center of a specialized programme based on distortions to get a grasp of nematic superconductivity.
